Apart from his expertise in Wix and Squarespace, he also knows how to use Premiere and After Effects, two programs used for video editing. Van Norden’s professional focus is on producing video content for several digital platforms and maximizing user experiences through web design.

Van Norden discusses his process for creating digital content that improves user engagement and represents new trends in the market in this interview.

TWB: Can you share your journey into web design and video editing? What inspired you to pursue this field?

CDVN: I started my web design and video editing journey more than ten years ago. The opportunity to produce powerful and fascinating visual material that may revolutionize user experiences motivated me. I studied a BA in Communication and Media Studies at Hunter College because I was passionate about technology and storytelling, and I’ve been improving my writing ever since.

TWB: What are some key elements you consider when creating engaging visual content for websites?

CDVN: Interactive components, contemporary design, and an easy-to-use user interface are essential components. For example, adding these components to a startup’s website redesign resulted in a 40% increase in time spent on the page in just three months.

TWB: You mentioned a significant increase in time spent on a redesigned startup’s website. What strategies did you implement to achieve that?

CDVN: I concentrated on interactive components, contemporary design, and an easy-to-use interface. This strategy extended the amount of time visitors spent on the website by making it more interesting and navigable.

TWB: How do you approach creating compelling video content, especially for social media platforms?

CDVN: I make brief, engrossing videos that emphasize salient characteristics or advantages. I created product demo videos for an online retailer that increased sales by 15%.

TWB: Could you elaborate on the role of A/B testing in optimizing user experience? Can you provide an example of a successful test you conducted?

CDVN: Optimizing the user experience requires A/B testing. I tested several homepage designs for a SaaS company’s website, and the best one increased signups by 30%.

TWB: In your opinion, how can companies balance aesthetics with functionality in their digital presence?

CDVN: Companies should focus on creating visually appealing designs that do not compromise usability. Balancing aesthetics with functionality ensures a seamless user experience.

TWB: What are some emerging trends in web design and video production that businesses should be aware of?

CDVN: Emerging trends include the use of AI for personalized user experiences, immersive storytelling through AR/VR, and the increasing importance of mobile-first design.

TWB: How do you incorporate sustainability practices into your digital projects, if at all?

CDVN: I prioritize using energy-efficient hosting solutions and optimizing website performance to reduce carbon footprints. Additionally, I advocate for digital minimalism to reduce unnecessary data usage.

TWB: Diversity is becoming increasingly important in media. How do you ensure your projects reflect diverse perspectives and accessibility?

CDVN: I ensure my projects reflect diverse perspectives by including diverse voices in the creative process and adhering to accessibility standards to make content accessible to all users.

TWB: What advice would you give to startups looking to enhance their online engagement through visual content?

CDVN: Startups should focus on creating high-quality, engaging visual content that resonates with their target audience. Regularly testing and optimizing content based on user feedback is also essential.

  1. Balancing aesthetics with functionality is crucial. We all hate an ugly site (I grew up in the 90s, and my, oh, my, were the sites ugly!), but I hate even more one whose navigation is not intuitive. It’s a very interesting interview since we engage with content all day long, but most of us don’t think too much about what’s behind it.
