“A neurodiverse incompatibility with school led me onto an unconventional path early on, which eventually inspired me to write The Destiny Book.”
– Helena Lind
Question: Helena, thank you for joining us. Let’s start by hearing about your journey—can you introduce yourself in your own words, share a bit about your background, and tell us what led you to write The Destiny Book?
Answer: Hello from Wales and thanks for inviting me. As an author, I focus on our relations with causal powers such as Destiny. A neurodiverse incompatibility with school led me onto an unconventional path early on. I worked in down-to-earth fields before becoming a music producer and creator.
At 33, an accident en route to a TV show resulted in Kafkaesque circumstances and 100% disability. They told me to accept “my fate.” Instead, I embarked on my pièce de résistance: The Destiny Book. After almost eleven years of transformation, self-directed physical rehab and skillset upgrades, I regained enough vital capabilities to slowly build a new professional sphere. By 2020, completing the book rose to the top of my agenda. In 2022, a competent U.S. boutique publisher beckoned and launched The Destiny Book in 2024. Every twist has its meaning.
Question: Your book explores the theme of destiny across different cultures, philosophies, and belief systems. What first sparked your interest in this topic, and how did you approach researching such a vast and complex subject?
Answer: From a very young age, I pondered what I now call “phenomenal forces” like Destiny or luck, vis-à-vis my complex background. Additionally, and despite preceding challenges, that music industry home run until the accident rolled forward on lucky breaks, which always made me wonder. Many years of contemplating the Humanities and being an incurable book hoarder gave me a kind of head start.
I approached The Destiny Book like a producer: along one purposeful thread from beginning to end, always with the goal in mind. My phases of research meant scouring international bookshops and libraries, chasing rare academic works through different channels, whichever way possible. Today, authors are spoiled with amazing digital research opportunities like the academic Scite platform.
Question: Your work draws from historical, mythological, and philosophical perspectives. Was there a particular discovery or insight that changed the way you personally view destiny?
Answer: I never believed in Destiny like a follower of a faith or ideology, or as fixed foreordainment. I know it as the law of universal interconnectedness and cosmic order, beyond any denomination. Reviewing all its aspects, angles, and history affirmed the factual significance of millennia of human choice to invoke this grand tenet of foundational inspiration. And that’s why I write it with a capital D. My main takeaway: arguably, every culture implements and expresses this essence. Shaping a mutual human Destiny could be a worthwhile goal for the future.
Question: Winning the BREW Readers Choice Award for March 2025 highlights how your book has resonated with readers. What does this recognition mean to you, and what do you think makes The Destiny Book connect so strongly with its audience?
Answer: Winning this award was a wonderful surprise. It means so much, not just to me but to the book’s message. Readers say it makes them see conventional wisdom and their own role with fresh eyes. It reminds us that the turmoil and perils we face aren’t long-term, or destined. We are agents of Destiny, more than able to carry the torch against man-made doom.
Question: Many readers struggle with the tension between free will and determinism. Based on your research, do you believe people have the power to shape their own destinies, or are we all bound by unseen forces?
Answer: Free will is part of our core. We carve our paths while playing in concert with phenomenal forces. It’s compatible with both dynamic Destiny and the doctrine of determinism. Actual society itself depends on the agreed reality of volition. The universe flows on regardless, while philosophers and scientists continue their dispute.
Question: Your book covers the impact of destiny on different aspects of society, including art, politics, and spirituality. In today’s world, where do you see the concept of destiny playing the biggest role?
Answer: The construct of a glorious Destiny is misused for personal or political agendas, but hubris always backfires. Yet the pure notion of Destiny, the blueprint for our belief systems, could unify us. Its spiritual thread already connects most of humanity, in many versions. Why not harmonize differences under one democratic human Destiny?
Question: Your approach integrates philosophy, science, and storytelling. How important is interdisciplinary thinking in today’s discussions about human purpose and existence?
Answer: Humanity could thrive if sadly rife ideations of self-declared exceptionalism were lowered and factual options for effective cooperation raised. We need a multi-pronged mindset to embrace the full spectrum of who we are. We all cling to the same boat, so tolerant clarity, in tandem with provident empathy, would serve us well, especially our children, the true heirs of Destiny.
Question: You have an interesting background, blending various fields of study and life experiences. How have your personal journey and diverse influences shaped the way you write and think about destiny?
Answer: Since I was small, the constant mention of Destiny in almost all contexts sparked a lifelong intrigue. Personal experiences taught me never to take anything for granted, and working on the book helped me understand why we trust the notion of Destiny with our stories, and even our loves, alongside our choices, aspirations, and hopes. To me, Destiny is the compass rose, voyage, and destination in one.
Question: Your work touches on universal human experiences. How do you see the role of diversity, inclusivity, and cultural perspectives in shaping our understanding of destiny?
Answer: Diversity is nature’s gift. Inclusivity is an absolute must. Different cultural perspectives enrich our path toward a future-proof identity as one multifaceted human tribe. Embracing otherness with tolerance is a major stepping stone that leads us to understand our destinies. We’re all invited; we’re all chosen.

Question: Looking ahead, do you have any upcoming projects, new areas of research, or ideas you’re excited to explore further?
Answer: At 66, there’s no slowing down. I’ve just finished the rough draft of another book and am gradually developing Destinosophy: everything about phenomenal forces, exploring how Destiny, fate, and cause-and-effect shape our real-world experiences. It expands The Destiny Book’s philosophical thread, asking questions like: how can these phenomena elevate us rather than hold us back? How to learn and benefit from both the pull of external universal laws and the chance appearances of luck or serendipity? In time, you’ll find answers with Destinosophy. The journey goes on, Destiny has lots of work for us to do.
