In “Cheerful Obedience” (War Fiction Book of 2023) Sergeant Conor Patrick McKall takes an R&R to Sydney in October 1967. His experiences provide a break from the war and, as one reader told me, a break also for the readers. Conor is captivated by the engaging men and women he encounters, all welcoming to the “Yank.” He departs Sydney as a good will ambassador for the Aussies. Cheers, Patrick McLaughlin
